Dr. Isabel Araiza

Isabel Araiza is Associate Professor of Sociology and a McNair Mentor. She teaches for the Mexican American Studies Program and the Women and Gender Studies Program.

Dr. Araiza practices public sociology.  Her research interests include social class and inequality, education, and aging. Her work appears in the anthology, Literate Practices/Language Practices: What Do We Really Know about Our Students and the Journal of Border Educational Research.  She was an investigator Coastal Bend Community Health Needs Assessments.  Her current research project focuses on the planned integration of Corpus Christi Independent School District resulting from the Cisneros v Corpus Christi Independent School District (1970), the first case to extend the U.S. Supreme Court's Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas decision (1954) to Mexican Americans.
