TAMUCC Department of Music
Performing and sharing music is what music is all about! Music students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi have a great variety of performance possibilities including Orchestra, Concert band, Choir, and Pep Band. There are also numerous opportunities for chamber music, including Flute Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Low Brass Ensemble, brass and woodwind quintets and string quartets. Regardless of your particular tastes in music you will not only be able to find something that you like, you will also have many opportunities to experience something new and different, and to experience much musical growth in the process.
The TAMU-CC Band department offers numerous performing opportunities for music majors and non-music majors. Ensembles include the Symphonic Winds, and the Men's and Women's Basketball Band. The Symphonic Winds perform regularly in the TAMUCC Performing Arts Center, and the Basketball Bands performs in the American Bank Center in downtown Corpus Christi.
Symphonic Winds (MUEN 1123)
The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Symphonic Winds performs three concerts a semester with a varied repertoire of music that includes original works for band, transcriptions, and marches. The Symphonic Winds performs music of all styles, with an emphasis on new music, and rehearses Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:30pm - 4:45pm. The ensemble is open to all students on campus by audition, and is conducted by Dr. Brian Shelton.
Concert Band (MUEN 1122)
The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Concert band, is a non-auditioned group that rehearses Monday and Wednesday from 5-6:15pm.
Pep Band (MUEN 1127)
The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Basketball Band plays at most home games for the men's and women's basketball teams. The band is an exciting part of the Islander Athletics and adds to the exciting atmosphere in the American Bank Center at game time. Rehearsals for the band are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00pm - 6:15pm. The Basketball Band is open to all students on campus and is a fun way to get involved with the University.
Stage Band (MUEN1128)
The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Stage Band (AKA TAMUCC Jazz Band) is an exciting ensemble that was revived in the Fall of 2012 by Robert W. Brown (M.M. Jazz Studies University of North Texas). Students will rehearse traditional and contemporary styles of jazz with opportunities to perform for university events and also for special occasions in the Corpus Christi area and the surrounding region. Students involved in this ensemble gain valuable insight into commercial performance practices which can lead to further professional opportunities in music business. University Orchestra (MUEN 1124)
The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi University Orchestra performs two concerts a semester with a varied repertoire of music The University Orchestra rehearses Monday from 7-9:30pm and Wednesdays from 12-12:50pm. The ensemble is open to all students on campus by audition, and is conducted by Dr. Jose Flores.
Camerata Isla (MUEN 1153)
The Select chamber choir of the Island University perfroms advanced choral literature suitable for smaller ensembles. This ensemble performs with the University Singers on their fall and spring concerts and travels throughout the region to perform for high schools and civic organizations. Camerate Isla rehearses Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays from 12:00 - 12:50pm and is conducted by Dr. Ross C. Bernhardt.
University Singers (MUEN 1151)
The TAMU-CC University Singers perform choral literature ranging from Renaissance motets to spirituals and contemporary avant-garde compositions. Performances presented by this 60-voice select mixed ensemble include fall and spring concerts in the Performing Artc Center (PAC) as well as community appearances and occasional collaborative performances with the Corpus Christi Symphony. The ensemble rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm - 4:45pm and is conducted by Dr. Ross C. Bernhardt.
Corpus Christi Chorale (MUEN 1143)
The Corpus Christi Chorale is an auditioned community chorus affiliated with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi that welcomes adults and college/university students within its ranks. The 90-voice mixed ensemble performs choral/orchestral masterworks as well as standards from the cappella choral repertoire. The Chorale often collaborates with the Corpus Christi Symphony as well as other Coastal Bend choral ensembles. The ensemble rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30 pm and is conducted by Dr. Ross C. Bernhardt.
