Music Ensembles

TAMUCC College of Liberal Arts


Performing and sharing music is what music is all about! Music students at Texas A&M Corpus Christi have a great variety of performance possibilities including Orchestra, Concert band, Choir, and Pep Band. There are also numerous opportunities for chamber music, including Flute Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Low Brass Ensemble, brass and woodwind quintets and string quartets. Regardless of your particular tastes in music you will not only be able to find something that you like, you will also have many opportunities to experience something new and different, and to experience much musical growth in the process.

The TAMUCC Band Department offers numerous performing opportunities for music majors and non-music majors. Ensembles include the Symphonic Winds, and the Men's and Women's Basketball Band. The Symphonic Winds perform regularly in the TAMUCC Performing Arts Center, and the Basketball Band performs in the American Bank Center in downtown Corpus Christi.

Symphonic Winds (MUEN 1123)
The A&M-Corpus Christi Symphonic Winds performs three concerts a semester with a varied repertoire of music that includes original works for band, transcriptions, and marches. The Symphonic Winds performs music of all styles, with an emphasis on new music, and rehearses Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-2:15 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-1:45 p.m. The ensemble is open to all students on campus by audition, and is conducted by Dr. Shawn Smith.

Basketball Band (MUEN 1127)
The TAMUCC Basketball Band plays at most home games for the men's and women's basketball teams. The band is an exciting part of Islander Athletics and adds to the exciting atmosphere in the American Bank Center at game time. The Basketball Band is open to all students on campus and is a fun way to get involved with the university.

Camerata Isla (MUEN 1153)
The select chamber choir of the Island University performs advanced choral literature suitable for smaller ensembles. This ensemble performs with the University Singers on their fall and spring concerts and travels throughout the region to perform for high schools and civic organizations. Camerata Isla rehearses Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:00-12:50 p.m. and is conducted by Dr. Ross C. Bernhardt.

University Singers (MUEN 1151)
The TAMUCC University Singers perform choral literature ranging from Renaissance motets to spirituals and contemporary avant-garde compositions. Performances presented by this 60-voice select mixed ensemble include fall and spring concerts in the Performing Arts Center as well as community appearances and occasional collaborative performances with the Corpus Christi Symphony. The ensemble rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5:15 p.m. and is conducted by Dr. Ross C. Bernhardt.

Corpus Christi Chorale (MUEN 1143)
The Corpus Christi Chorale is an auditioned community chorus affiliated with Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi that welcomes adults and college/university students within its ranks. The 90-voice mixed ensemble performs choral/orchestral masterworks as well as standards from the a cappella choral repertoire. The Chorale often collaborates with the Corpus Christi Symphony as well as other Coastal Bend choral ensembles. The ensemble rehearses Tuesday evenings from 7:30-9:30 p.m. and is conducted by Dr. Ross C. Bernhardt.
