History Teacher Certifications

Our certification tracks are designed to prepare students to teach history and social studies to elementary, middle, and high school students.  Aspiring history teachers (grades 7-12) take a course of study similar to the History major.  Social studies teachers (grades 4-8 or 7-12) take courses in multiple disciplines, including history, geography, English, economics, and political science.  All students must take courses related to the teaching field in the College of Education.

In addition to advising students in the content area portions of the certification tracks, we provide guidance and resources for the TExES certification exams.  Only students who pass the certification exams will be admitted to the student teaching phase of the program.  For more information about the program or the certification exams, contact the Content Area Certification Coordinator for History and Social Studies or the Academic Advisor for History.  Click here for the catalog description of the certification tracks.
