Department of Humanities
Welcome to the Department of Humanities!
If you are interested in asking big questions, exploring the world of ideas, getting new and exciting perspectives on the past, and learning about your cultural and linguistic heritage, then you’ve come to the right place.
Humanities is a multi-disciplinary department that offers majors in History, Philosophy, and Spanish and interdisciplinary minors in Mexican-American Studies and Religious Studies. Our students take classes on important and fascinating topics like the meaning of life, the history of war, sexuality, religion, nature, and pop culture, Spanish literature and civilization, issues in medical ethics, and the philosophy of sex and love. In the process they acquire advanced skills in oral communication, research, translation, writing, and critical thinking, skills they apply to a diverse range of careers, from teaching and law to business and academe.
Our award-winning faculty are among the most accomplished scholars and teachers at the university, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the classroom. Our academic programs are robust, but they are also small enough to provide individual attention, small classes, and face-to-face instruction to our students.
Are you ready for an intellectual challenge? Are you interested in exploring enduring questions about human life, history, culture, language, and ideas? Are you curious about the humanities? Then follow the links to the right and take a moment to explore our programs. Feel free to reach out to faculty and staff with your questions. We’d love to visit with you.
