Learning and creativity come from experiences...not always within the classroom. We provide our students with experiences that expand their understanding of the field of graphic design and challenge the status quo. From attending national design conferences to bringing nationally renowned guest lectures to the island, we aim to inspire and ignite our students' creative passion.
The Oso Bay Biennial is a bi-annual event held within the Department of Art at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. In 2016, the emphasis for the biennial was graphic design! With months of fundraising and planning, we were able to host an amazing event for our students and professional community. Additionally, we had students from many other design programs across Texas in attendance.
James Victore spent 3 days at TAMU-CC . . . 3 inspirational, chaotic and enlightening days! Students were able to engage with James in a series of workshops, an exhibition and studio critiques. His time with us culminated with lecture that left students and professionals alike in a standing ovation. The experience was once in a lifetime for our students and they will be forever changed.
We encourage our students to participate in national conferences and conventions. In 2015, we took students to the national American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) conference in New Orleans, LA. The trip was 100% paid for by fundraising and Parent's Council Funding. Students heard from national and international speakers as well as attended workshops led by industry giants.
In 2016, we attended the DSVC National Student Show and Conference in Dallas, TX
In collaboration with American Advertising Federation–Corpus Christi Chapter, TAMU-CC students and faculty work with advertising and media professionals to create an entire multi-media campaign for a deserving organization from concept to completion in one day! Local non-profits are nominated as client recipients for this One Day event. Previous clients include Youth Odyssey, The Surfrider Foundation and Mission Pawsible Pet Rescue.
Your experiences both beyond campus and Corpus Christi are enriching, however, don't underestimate the richness of our community on the Island! A variety of sports, sororities and fraternities, clubs, theater and musical performances and so much more awaits. Celebrating our differences, TAMU-CC hosts a number of multi-cultural events so that we may learn from one another. Student life at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is just that, lively!
