Julia Jacquette
November 20 – February 19
The Weil Gallery will host an exhibition of paintings and prints by New York-based artist Julia Jacquette. Centered in themes of domesticity, consumption, popular culture, nostalgia, and desire, the exhibition will include works that interrogate the familiarity of images of food, liquor, hair, and interior environments, captured in Jacquette’s characteristically lush visual language.
Artist’s virtual lecture: Friday, November 20, 4:00-5:00pm (co-moderated by Professor Dr. Laura Petican and Professor David Hill).

Rodrigo Valenzuela
March 19 - April 23
TAMU-CC welcomes Rodrigo Valenzuela to the Weil Gallery for an exhibition of recent multimedia works. Currently a Professor of Art at University of California Los Angeles, Valenzuela’s works composed of staged scenes and digital interventions construct politically engaged, post-capitalist dialogues across photography, film, and installation to address notions of urban decline and civil disobedience.

Artist’s online lecture: Friday, March 19, 5:00-6:00pm (available to view on the CLA’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TAMUCCcla/)

MFA Thesis Exhibition: Hittin' the Switch
May 4-16
Maclovio Cantú IV
The Weil Gallery will host Maclovio Cantú IV’s MFA thesis exhibition as an amalgamation of processes including printmaking, painting, and installation to illustrate his life experiences. The works reflect inner city streets layered with history. Walls plastered with advertisements and grafitti and cover-up paint accumulate a thick skin, like their inhabitants have acquired to survive poverty, discrimination, systematic racism, and the internal struggle of how to live a fulfilling life. For many from Cantú’s neighborhood, a lowrider is a reflection of hard work, versatility, and pride in oneself. For most, owning one is a dream. Creating these stylized vehicles on canvas backdrops reminiscent of inner city walls places the dream in a real space that transforms thought into reality.

Opening reception: May 7th, (TBD)
