Bachelor of Applied Sciences ( BAS )


The Bachelor of Applied Science degree at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi builds on the knowledge and skills acquired by students with formal training in vocational/technical studies from accredited institutions and those who are a graduate of an Associate in Applied Sciences program. This bachelor’s degree program has multiple career tracks. The degree is awarded on completion of 120 semesters hours of credit.

Requirements for admission to the program include:

An AAS degree from a recognized program and completion of the awarding college’s core curriculum;

Or

Completion of up to 33 hours of vocational/technical credit from an accredited junior college, Completion of the junior colleges or TAMU-CC core curriculum (partial completion of core subjects at other institutions will require completion of TAMU-CC’s core), and a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Career Related Tracks

Applied Leadership - is designed for employees in any field who seek to advance their careers in supervisory positions and whose employers require additional academic qualifications.

Child Development/Early Childhood Education - is designed for graduates of Applied Arts and Sciences programs in Child Development and for child care providers seeking additional qualifications.

Community and Mental Health - is for graduates with degrees in Addiction Option/Human Services or Intergenerational/Human Services and others who seek entry level positions in Social Services Agencies such as Child Protective Services or Child/Elderly Care Facilities.

Criminal Justice - is designed for graduates of associate degree programs in law enforcement or corrections.

Digital Information Mapping - prepares students for careers in land surveying, geographic information, and hydrographic and digital mapping. It provides courses acceptable by the Texas Board of Professional Surveying (TBPLS) for credit toward the requirements to take the state board exam.

Emergency Response - prepares those planning careers as firefighters, police officers, emergency management planners, or incident response officers in the management of emergency situations such as natural disasters or major industrial incidents.

Environmental and Occupational Safety - prepares students planning a variety of careers in professions such as environmental safety officer, firefighter, and police officer in the management of workplace safety issues.

Industrial Electronics and Manufacturing - prepares students for a variety of technical/professional careers such as industrial safety inspector, control systems technician, manufacturing specialist, manufacturing technologist, and electronics technician.

Informational Technology - prepares students for a variety of careers such as personal computer technician, network administrator, database manager, information security technician and computer technology within commercial, industrial, educational and government organizations.

Legal Studies - is designed for graduates of Court Reporting, Legal Secretarial, and Paralegal specialties who seek advancement in private law firms, federal or state government agencies, legal departments of corporations, banks, insurance companies, mortgage companies, law libraries, legal services/legal aid offices, and law departments of special interest groups or associations.

Technical Communication – is designed for graduates from a variety of Applied Arts and Sciences programs who seek preparation for career tracks that demand good communication skills. It provides entry into a fast-growing, in-demand field.
